Sunday May 6

Carlos stayed in bed as Kerry and I got ready. We said our goodbyes and headed downstairs where the embassy had a car for us. We got to the airport in less than an hour. I had taken enough money to pay for the airport tax for us. We got there before the Avianca Airlines had opened their counter, but there was a long line. We waited for over an hour. Then we found that the tax had been paid when the tickets were purchased. There was no legitimate place to change money at the airport to dollars. There is a federal law against it. So I figure I will try to sell the bolivars when I get back to Seattle. We ate some breakfast and then got on the plane. I had gone to Avianca’s office at the Tamanaco to get our seats assigned, but Rebecca and Dennis’s were changed. Kerry found that we had about a 10 minute stop over in Bogata.
The flight was nice. We landed in Bogota and only after landing found we had to get off the plane and change planes. I was concerned as we only had one boarding pass. We had to pass through two security checkpoints and found the gate for our second flight to Quito. We heard two stories. It was open seating and then as we boarded that we should keep our original seats. The flight was fine. We arrived at Quito. We easily went through immigration and then finally got all our baggage. A hotel shuttle was there waiting for us. We got there and check in was a breeze. The Hotel Quito is old but nice. The rooms really old. The bathrooms from the 60's with pink tile. I had a pretty small room. We all met for dinner in the restaurant. What a view, we all fell in love with Quito immediately. Went to bed early.
